Genoa has a railway network which runs along the main East - West directions and to those branches connecting the town with the North of Europe. There is a "train + Genoa city" ticket for €1,29 enabling passengers coming from other places in Liguria and Piedmont, with a return train ticket to Genoa, to travel throughout the whole town area within 24 hours of stamping. This combination ticket can be purchased at any railway station.
The two main railway stations are Genova Principe - Piazza Acquaverde, 4 - (to and from the West and the North of the country) and Genova Brignole - Piazza Verdi,1 - (connecting Genoa to the East): the train is one of the most comfortable means of transport to move around the city (from Voltri to Nervi).

The small train Genova Casella – is one of the rare examples of Italian narrow-gauge railways, it is 25 km long and is articulated along a route characterised by steep slopes and narrow bends, among Apennine ridges, crags and ditches; a mountain railway even though it is by the sea for the first 6 km.
