Nazario Sauro Submarine

The S 518 Nazario Sauro, the largest Italian submarine on water to be permanently open for visits will welcome the public onboard from Saturday 29 May for an engaging and interactive “immersion”. Visitors will start the tour by lowering themselves onto the bridge with a security helmet and an interactive audio-guide which activates automatically along the itinerary…
The great Italian submarine will “open its hatches” to the public to become the first museum on water in front of the Galata Maritime Musem.
This important acquisition which enriches the Museum, the Docks and surroundings, and the whole AcquarioVillage world, will be celebrated by Genoa with a unique event on Friday 28 May. From 09.00 p.m. till 11.00 p.m. the Nazario Sauro will trasform itself into a natural stage for a show of sounds, lights and fireworks.
1.300 seats for the public, 800 VIP seats, 130 square metres of giant screens, 68 metres of submarine under the soptlight: these are some of the numbers of an evening which is intended to be a true present to the city.
As early as 08.00 p.m., on the swing notes of the NP Big Band - a music orchestra of 16 elements positioned on the Urban Lab terrace - the public will be able to take a seat on the specially set-up grandstand on Calata Simone Vignoso, on the docks of Darsena dei Pescatori, to view the show scheduled to commence at 09.30 p.m.
Visitors of the Nazario Sauro will be have a chance to sit at the control panel, listen to the description of the different rooms: the helm station, the petty officers’ quarters, the radio room, the refectory, the dormitories, the missile control room.
Entertainment, activities, meetings with expert staff, seminars will enrich the tour of the submarine, mixing knowledge, fun and curiosity.
The tour of the submarine is possible only in addition to the visit of the Galata Maritime Museum, whose exhibition includes a pre-show of the Nazario Sauro “experience”. The ticket for the submarine can therefore be bought together or after the ticket of the museum.
The audio-guide is included in the price.
For security reasons children aged 3 or below are not allowed on the submarine.
